For more than 35 years, Cornell Cooperative Extension SLC and the SUNY Canton Veterinary Technician Program have provided local youth to gain hands-on experience in animal science.
The program is held five evenings beginning in March and open to youth ages 13-18 year-old.
Past classes have covered rabies, radiology, emergency and basic care, surgery and many other areas. These hands-on classes are taught by vet tech students with assistance from their professors. The class fills every year with more than half of students typically reporting they are more likely to pursue a career in animal science because of the program.
This year classes will run from 6:30pm-8:00pm on March 23, March 30 , April 6, April 20 and April 27 at SUNY Canton. Some events may be held at the CCE learning Farm.
Cost to register is $30 for enrolled 4-H'ers and $50 for non 4-H members.
