Eat Smart New York Nutrition Educator

This position will serve as a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-ED) Nutritionist I for Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County and will implement SNAP-ED programming from a menu of existing SNAP-ED educational programs and program activities in St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties. This position will implement already-existing educational programming, including occasional creation of lesson plans based on established program knowledge, to the public to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among low-income families and individuals encompassing all age groups. This position will be responsible for the delivery of established SNAP-ED programming to community groups, and will deliver other established SNAP-ED programming and activities, both on-site and off-site, in the community, in accordance with the Nutrition Program Area’s Plan of Work. This position will also coordinate all administrative aspects of the SNAP-ED Program and will assist the Youth and Family Lead, Program Leader, Communications Coordinator and Environmental Nutritionist with marketing efforts for SNAP-ED programming, to include the environmental change initiative in collaboration with other Nutritionists of the SNAP-ED program in the North Country Region. The SNAP-ED Nutritionist I will provide guidance to CCE of St. Lawrence County SNAP-ED Program Educators.

Required Qualifications:

Specify required minimum equivalency for education, experience, skills, information systems knowledge, etc.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/ Health Education/ Public Health, a Registered Dietitian, or equivalent education (Associate's Degree in Nutrition or Public Health and 2 years transferable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Farm Day Camp Counselor

Provide supervision for campers at all times, prepare and teach assigned classes, assist in carrying out general camp programs, and notify Camp Director and/or Assistant Director of safety and health concerns. This position will work Monday to Friday 8 hours per day.Farm Day Camp is located at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm in Canton, New York.The first day will be June 27, 2019 and will go through August 22, 2019. This position will work Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.

Specific Responsibilities:

1.Participate in and supervise all assigned aspects of the Farm Day Camp’s daily routine.

2.Enforce camp safety and health regulations.

3.Prepare and teach assigned classes, activities, and duties.

4.Assist staff or other counselors in leading camp programs and activities.

5.Keep inventory of class materials and equipment and request additional supplies when necessary.

6.Prepare for, and actively participate in, staff trainings and meetings.

7.Be a positive role model for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing in clean up and chores, sportsmanship, table manners, and the following of camp rules and regulations.

8.Represent Farm Day Camp and Cornell Cooperative Extension in a professional manner to campers and their families, and the general public.

9.Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

1.2 years of past camp experience preferred.

2.Successful completion of Farm Day Camp staff training.

3.Special requirements and/or training may be needed to meet NYS Department of Health regulations to teach a specific class.

4.Desire and ability to work with and provide supervision for youth of all age and skill levels.

5.Ability to meet the public.

6.Ability to prepare and teach classes.

7.Ability to accept supervision and guidance.

8.Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.

9.Ability to conduct themselves in a professional and mature manner in all situations.

10.First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required.
