4-H Animal Projects: Developing Skills through Animal Care
4-H animal projects are an integral part of the 4-H youth development program, helping young people cultivate essential life skills such as leadership, responsibility, and compassion. Through these projects, 4-H members gain hands-on experience working with a variety of animals.
What 4-H Animal Projects Include:

Learning:
4-H members learn about the care, management, and life history of animals. These programs are available for youth and teens ages 8-18, while 4-H Cloverbud programs are available for youth ages 5-7.

4-H members can work with a wide range of livestock, including:
- Dairy and Beef Cattle
- Goats
- Sheep
- Horses
- Poultry

Showing:
4-H members can participate in showmanship classes and compete in county and state shows to demonstrate how well they handle their animals.
