Seed to Supper: a course for beginning gardeners

CCE is offering a FREE gardening course to adult, low-income* county residents.

This course includes 6 weekly classes geared toward beginning gardeners with limited resources who are eager to grow healthy food for their families.

Sign up now before the class is full! (link below)

Location: The course will be held in-person in Potsdam, NY at the Public Library.

We will cover how to:

  • plan a garden / container garden
  • plant seedlings
  • manage pests
  • use the harvest
  • creatively contain costs while growing healthy food.

Dates: Seed to Supper will be offered starting April 17th, 2024 and meeting every week on Wednesdays until May 22nd from 6-8pm. Each class will be taught by several trained Master Gardener Volunteers and Erica LaFountain, Community Horticulture Educator.

Class dates and times: 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15 and 5/22. All classes are at 6-8pm.

Participants will receive garden kits and manuals to use during and after the course. The kits will include basic tools, seeds, seedlings, grow bags, potting soil, and a soil test for the participant’s garden plot.

Providing healthy food and a calming outdoor hobby for yourself and your family can be a powerful experience to gain food security and counter stress. Participants will not only have an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills related to food gardening, but also to connect to local resources and a support system to face their challenges.

If you are an adult, and a low income county resident and you are interested in this class, sign up by filling out this brief questionnaire and you'll be contacted within a few days.

*For the purposes of this program, anyone who is eligible for SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, or HEAP is also eligible for Seed to Supper. Anyone who feels food insecure is also eligible for this program.
