Did you know that over 1,500 pounds of fresh produce from area farms is going into school lunches each week? Learn about the multi-faceted collaboration that makes this Fresh-cut program possible in the next edition of the Fruition Local Food Showcase on November 17, 7-8pm.

Fruition is a monthly live stream that highlights the foods and people of our northern region. The online program includes 1-1 interviews that are 15 minutes apiece with each of the three featured guests. In addition to the conversation and accompanying photographs, there are prize giveaways and seasonal recipes. The Fruition Showcase is free for the guest participants as well as any community member eager to tune in and learn more about the food system of St. Lawrence County.

Program Guests

1. 7:05-7:20pm- The first guest on the November live stream is Rainbow Crabtree of Nature’s Storehouse. Rainbow will share about her natural foods store with a nearly 50 year history in downtown Canton. Her family are the fourth owners of this store and now they are seeking buyers to start the next chapter.

2. 7:25- 7:40pm Second guest is Susanne Saunders of the Kilian Biohof in Gouverneur. Susanne raises beef and pork using certified organic methods.

3.7:45-8:00pm  This month’s program includes a unique addition. Usually viewers learn first-hand from a single producer sharing their knowledge and passion for their business. The final segment of the November program highlights a multi-year collaborative effort to source, process and distribute New York State produce that is incorporated into school lunches at 19 schools in the region. This conversation includes Dave Gravlin, School Food Management for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, Lee Van de Water of Big Spoon Kitchen and program host Flip Filippi of Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County.
