  • Wednesday, August 25, 2021, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Update Tuesday 8/24- Bus is full. Sign-ups for driving self to 1-2 farm tours still available.

This special day has been organized for farmers, food producers and technical service providers. It is not open to the general community, thanks for your understanding.

We invite you to visit some incredible Adirondack farms while treating yourself to a day away from your own ag business. Whether you are interested in livestock, value-added meat or dairy, agritourism or produce, there are stops for you to enjoy. We’ve organized a day that includes both on-site farm tours, as well as local food meals and time to connect with other North Country producers at a beautiful spot on Lake Champlain. We have rented a bus to transport participants. If you opt into the transportation, all stops are included. To attend only part of the day's events, you are responsible for transporting yourself. Space is limited and RSVP is required. See below for itinerary, farm profiles and how to sign up for this one-of-a-kind opportunity. This trip is for farmers or food producers in the North Country region including St. Lawrence, Essex, Jefferson, Clinton, Franklin, Lewis counties and the Mohawk territory at Akwesasne. The general public is not eligible to attend.

FARM STOPS

Livestock Tours includes two stops: Mace Chasm Farm and North Country Creamery
Mace Chasm grazes cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry in Keeseville. Unique parts of this business include having an on-farm butcher shop where they prepare smoked and fermented meats and a wide range of sausages. Though in a remote location, they have a thriving on-farm store, and sell their meats directly to customers at farmers markets. Tour participants will hear directly from owners Courtney Grimes-Sutton and Asa Thomas-Train about their growth over the past decade to include an expanded line of fermented meat products.

North Country Creamery is a 100% grass-fed, Non-GMO, & Animal Welfare Approved dairy in Keeseville, NY. They produce a variety of cheeses including camembert, havarti and feta, along with cream-line yogurt and have a permit to sell raw milk. Owners Ashlee Kleinhammer and Steve Googin have community spirit that is ingrained in their business decisions. In addition to the dairy operations, they operate Clover Mead Farmstore. The farm store offers their own products including granola and bake goods as well as a variety of other local products.

Produce Tours includes two stops: Wild Work Farm and Juniper Hill Farm
Wild Work Farm
grows vegetables and fruit in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. They produce exceptional products for sale at farmers' markets, through a market share program, and to restaurants and wholesale accounts. Wild Work has their gaze set towards social, environmental and economic sustainability, working towards a different way of doing business in rural upstate New York. Tour participants will learn more about how they developed online sales channels, high tunnel production as well as the new barn and wash/pack facility completed in 2021.

“Don’t let California feed New York,” is the motto of Adam Hainer, owner of Juniper Hill Farm established in 2007. From their first 3 acres, they’ve expanded to over 100 acres of certified organic produce. With 14 greenhouses, they strive to bring to market an earlier and higher quality variety of products. Tour participants will have the opportunity to hear how they manage their high tunnels, learn about their harvest techniques and see the storage facilities that make their season extension possible.
