Cornell Cooperative Extension presents a webinar featuring some alternative uses for sheep’s wool. Sheep producers shear their sheep every year and market the wool. Some producers use their own fleeces to make roving, yarn, and knitted and woven items. Most have too many fleeces to market that way and instead market the fleeces in bulk through a Wool Pool. Prices are quite low and often don’t cover the cost of shearing the sheep.
Some producers in Vermont decided to look into some alternatives to the wool pool. They applied for a USDA grant to look at wool pellets and insulation among other things. Join us on Monday February 1st at 7:00 pm for an update from Kimberly Hagen. She will describe the project and what they found out and answer questions. This webinar is part of our Sheep Farm Evolution Series and is meant to share innovative ideas in an informal setting.
The webinar is free and open to everyone. Please register by going to the CCE St. Lawrence website at http://stlawrence.cce.cornell.edu.For more information call the Extension office at 315-379-9192 Ext 227 or email Betsy Hodge at bmf9@cornell.edu.
