State Fair Project Deadlines/Information

If you had a project selected for State Fair and are planning on sending your project to the State Fair, you will need to do the following:

1)The State Fair Entry Book is available here:https://nysfair.ny.gov/competitions/how-to-enter/ (if you need your class and section number).

2)Wrap and package your entry appropriately for the trip to Syracuse.The 4-H Staff will not take responsibility for broken or damaged goods.

i)Foods:Be sure to pack in a firm, airtight container.If you would like the container returned, be sure to clearly mark all parts with your name.

ii)Vegetables:Vegetables should be carefully wrapped with plastic when appropriate, then wrapped with newspaper for padding and carefully packed in a sturdy cardboard box.

iii)Ornamental Horticulture:Fresh flowers should be carefully packed with disposable containers.Remember:label vegetables and fresh flowers fully, especially variety name.Vegetables and fresh flowers other than the type shown at County Fair may be entered since part of the showing is based on the exhibitor’s skills.Check with the 4-H program for class details.

iv)Glass and other fragile items: Items should be wrapped in bubble wrap (or other appropriate wrapping) and securely enclosed in a box.

3)Fill out an Exhibitor Entry Card(s) and an Exhibitor Entry Statement neatly and completely. Exhibits with incomplete or incorrect exhibitor information cards will be disqualified.So be sure to carefully fill them out.If you have any questions on how to fill out your exhibitor information card, or if you need more exhibitor entry cards, please contact the Extension Office (379-9192). 4)If this is the first time you have sent projects to the State Fair we must have your Social Security number prior to your entries going to State Fair.Please bring your Social Security number on a separate piece of paper when you bring your project to the office.

Project entries that are non-perishable are to be packed properly and delivered to the Cooperative Extension Office, 2043B State Highway 68, Canton by 10:00am on Monday, August 20. Project entries that are perishable need to be dropped off by 10:00am on Friday, August 24.

After the State Fair, all non-perishable entries can be picked up at the Cooperative Extension Office on Wednesday, September 5, between the hours of 8:30am -11:00am or 1:00pm -3:30pm Since we have no storage space items not picked up by Wednesday, September 12 will be disposed of at the discretion of the 4-H Staff.
