Afterschool and Farm Day Camp Assistant Director
This position will serve as
both the North Wind Farm Day Camp Assistant Director and North Wind After School’s Site Supervisor
for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County. The North
Wind programs are
located at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm in Canton, New York. The Assistant Director will work closely with the
North Wind Program Director and staff to ensure safe physical health conditions
for all campers and staff and to manage safety and cleanliness standards of the
Farm Day Camp. This position will serve as a key staff member and Day Camp
Instructor, providing direct management of counselors and campers, and provides
additional support in high-risk areas of camp. The North Wind Day Camp Assistant Director will
oversee the camp in the absence of the Program Director and will alternate
opening or closing camp with the Program Director.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.
POSITION INFORMATION:
Required Qualifications:
- NYS
Department of Health requires a person in this role to be a minimum of 21 years
of age.
- Bachelor’s
Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two (2) years
transferable/functional experience) in childcare, education, etc.
- Experience
relevant to the role of the position.
- At
least one (1) year
of leadership experience in a program setting.
- Must
have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications acceptable
to the New York State Department of Health as a Camp Health Designee or the
ability to obtain.
- Valid
NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated
with this position.
- Ability
to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background
checks).
- Ability
to meet all School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family
Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (i.e. Tuberculosis Test, physical exam,
training requirements).
- Ability
to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as
appropriate.
- Must
be able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
- Must
have efficient computer skills.
- Desire
to work in a camp environment that facilitates experiences with farm animals.
- Ability
to operate required technology including radios, phone, and computer software
used for registrations, attendance, parental communication, and record keeping.
- Ability
to successfully complete the Farm Day Camp staff training.
