Fun Themes at 4-H Camp Keep the Summer Interesting

What makes camp different each week is the amazing themes developed by our counselor program directors. Each program director decides a theme for the week, and plans the evening activity. Often there are even themed meals and deserts! Staff and campers alike get into the theme of the week by dressing up in costume, creating crafts specific to the theme, and general silly nonsense.

Our first week’s theme was Medieval Fantasy. We had a king, a rogue knight, and even a wondering suit of armor who surprised campers in different spots around camp. Campers enjoyed turkey leg dinner with no silverware, completed a quest for a lost sword, and challenged each other’s kingdom (squads) in an all camp capture the flag complete with water balloons.Campers have become actively involved in the medieval feel of camp, we are definitely excited for more exciting weeks.

As our first week is coming to a close we begin preparation for our Disney theme for week two. Many counselors are already developing a specific Disney character persona to portray during the week.Campers should expect every Disney princess, hero, sidekick, and even characters from Star Wars! Campers are welcome to bring items or costumes to fit into the swing of Disney week. Our other themes throughout the summer include the third week Survivor theme where an all camp scavenger hunt will take place, and squads will compete in fun challenges. During fourth week we will test our competitive side with an Olympic theme where many campers participate in a camp version of the Olympic festivities, including an Olympic torch lighting, athletic competitive events, and some silly, non-Olympic approved events. Our fifth week’s theme is Holiday, which will even include a Marti Gras theme dance. And our final week of camp will be a music themed ‘Campchella’ where campers will explore a different genre of music for each day they will be spending at camp, and enjoy a fun festival atmosphere in Mountain View!

If you have a child interested in coming to camp it is not too late! We have a few openings for boys week five (July 31-August 5), and both girls and boys for week six (August 7-12th).
