4-H Equine Clinic: Hands-On Learning with an Equine Veterinarian

Join us at the Loomis Quarter Horse Facility for an exciting, interactive 4-H Equine Day, designed to offer young horse enthusiasts a fun and educational experience focused on the essential aspects of horse care and wellness! This special day will feature hands-on learning opportunities with an experienced equine veterinarian, where participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical skills that will benefit them for years to come.

What to Expect:

  1. Basic Equine Care – Learn how to properly groom and care for horses, including the tools and techniques used in daily horse care routines.
  2. Feeding & Nutrition – Understand the fundamentals of a horse’s diet, what they need for optimal health, and how to recognize signs of nutritional deficiencies.
  3. Hoof Care – Discover the importance of hoof health, common hoof problems, and how to properly care for a horse’s feet. Get up close and learn how to identify a healthy hoof.
  4. Common Illnesses & How to Identify Them – A key segment of the day will be dedicated to recognizing signs of common equine illnesses, such as colic, lameness, and respiratory issues. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about real-life scenarios, discussing symptoms and prevention.
  5. First Aid & Wound Care – Learn the basics of equine first aid, including how to handle cuts, abrasions, and injuries. The veterinarian will demonstrate techniques for cleaning and dressing wounds safely.
  6. Vaccines & Preventative Care – An informative session will cover the vital vaccines every horse needs, as well as tips for maintaining a horse's overall health through prevention and regular vet check-ups.

Interactive and Fun Learning: Throughout the day, activities will be tailored to ensure that all participants, regardless of their experience level, can get involved. You'll be able to interact with the horses, practice essential care tasks, ask questions, and receive personalized guidance from the equine veterinarian.

This is not a riding clinic, but a comprehensive, hands-on experience that emphasizes the importance of overall horse health and safety. Whether you’re a seasoned 4-H’er or new to horses, this Equine Day will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to become a well-rounded horse caretaker!

Bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and passion for horses—we can’t wait to see you there!
