Seed to Supper: a course for beginning gardeners

  • Thursday, April 27, 2023, 6:00 PM - Thursday, May 25@ 7:30 PM

CCE is offering a FREE gardening course to adult, low-income* county residents.

This course includes 5 weekly classes geared toward beginning gardeners with limited resources who are eager to grow healthy food for their families.

Sign up now before the class is full! (link below)

The course will be held in-person in Morristown, NY at the Parish Hall at St. John's Church.

We will cover how to:

  • plan a garden
  • plant seedlings
  • manage pests
  • use the harvest.

The focus will be on creative ways to contain costs while growing healthy food.

DATE CHANGE: Seed to Supper will be offered starting April 27th, 2023 and meeting every week on Thursdays until May 25th. Each class will be around 1.5 hours and will be taught by several trained Master Gardener Volunteers and Erica LaFountain, Community Horticulture Educator. Class dates: 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18 and 5/25.

Participants will receive garden kits and manuals to use during and after the course. The kits will include basic tools, seeds, seedlings, and a soil test for the participant’s garden plot. Adults with some space for gardening will be best served by this program, though participants will learn about container gardening as well.

Providing healthy food and a calming outdoor hobby for yourself and your family can be a powerful experience to gain food security and counter stress. Participants will not only have an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills related to food gardening, but also to connect to local resources and a support system to face their challenges.

If you are an adult, and a low income county resident and you are interested in this class, sign up by filling out this brief questionnaire and you'll be contacted within a few days.

*For the purposes of this program, anyone who is eligible for SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, or HEAP is also eligible for Seed to Supper. Anyone who feels food insecure is also eligible for this program.
