Program Leader - 21st Century Program - Canton, NY

This position will serve as the Program Leader for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Program for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County and will provide program and administrative direction, management, and coordination of all aspects of the After-School Program administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of St. Lawrence County in four (4) school districts. This position may support other After-School and 4-H Programs in this capacity as programming expands and/or school partnerships change. The 21st Century After-School Program provides comprehensive 4-H youth development opportunities for youth in grades K-8 from Parishville-Hopkinton, Edwards-Knox, Colton-Pierrepont and Hermon-Dekalb School Districts. The After-School Program Leader will provide supervision, coordination, and leadership to ensure the After-School Programs meet health, safety and licensing standards and offer quality 4-H youth development educational experiences using established 4-H curriculum and activities in the areas of agriculture and animal science; environmental science and natural resources; science, technology engineering, and math (STEM); healthy life styles and food systems; as well as a variety of other 4-H related topics. This position will work closely with the Team Leader and Association program staff to deliver a highly effective 4-H Afterschool Program which addresses the needs of local youth while employing the most current educational resources available. This position will coordinate all aspects of the 21st Century Grant including reporting processes; providing administrative support in the recruitment of new participants into the After-School Program; coordinating family events; coordinating advisory committee meetings, etc. This position will directly supervise the Association Temporary Program positions (28) and work closely with the Administrative Assistant to this position.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, and one year of staff supervisory experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year related work or volunteer experience in teaching young children.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cornell Cooperative Extension and 4-H Youth Development Programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of positive youth development and experiential education.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience working with the public, with an emphasis on youth and experiential learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach/facilitate a positive learning experience for youth.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in marketing programs and public relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to support administrative aspects of programming (i.e., direction, management, coordination).
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize reference materials for programming purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead programming.
