Are you tired of slow internet? Are your kids having trouble with their virtual learning connection? Are you having trouble working from home because of your internet access? Do you even have internet service where you live?
This is your opportunity to be part of the solution! St. Lawrence County leaders want to know exactly where broadband (high-speed internet) access is lacking in the county so they can take steps to fix it. All St. Lawrence County residents and businesses are being asked to fill out a quick and confidential survey about internet access and affordability: www.stlawrencecountybroadband.com
The information gathered through the survey will be mapped, showing the locations in the county that are unserved or underserved by high-speed internet access, paving the way for targeted solutions. This project, sponsored by St. Lawrence County and the Development Authority of the North Country, is a two-pronged approach – an on-the-ground inventory of existing cables, fiber, etc. and the survey. Combined they will provide clear data that can be used in grant applications to enhance broadband in the county. It will also help the Development Authority determine where to best invest in broadband resources.
Access to affordable broadband (high-speed internet) is not a luxury anymore, it’s necessary for students to be able to learn from home, for parents to be able to work from home, for people to be able to utilize telemedicine and to attract economic development to St. Lawrence County. Let’s take this matter into our own hands – be part of the solution and take a minute to complete the survey: www.stlawrencecountybroadband.com. Seasonal residents must be sure to use their St. Lawrence County address.
You can access the survey from any computer or mobile device with internet access. If you don’t have access to a computer, check with your local library about current operating hours and library use restrictions. For questions or assistance with a paper survey, contact the St. Lawrence County Planning Office at 315-379-2292.
