Production Options for Farm Food Products

  • Wednesday, February 10, 2021, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Is your farm or food business considering including a new value-added product line to your mix such as canned, dried or frozen items? When discussing this possibility there are many options to pursue, such as co-packing, private labelling, building your own facility or renting offsite commercial space. While there are similarities across these production options, each possibility has differences that affect your business such as: who is making the product, who owns the recipe, what records you need to keep, startup costs and more.

This online session is well-suited to individuals or businesses who are considering creating a value-added product. There will be time for questions during the workshop and each participant will leave with a clearer understanding of which production option might be best suited for your situation.

The session will be led by Flip Filippi, Local Food Program Leader and Harvest Kitchen Manager with guest Jori Wekin, Founder and Director of Hub on the Hill in Essex County.

Hub on the Hill Programs Programs:

  1. A commercial community kitchen for rent to value-added producers, and co-packing offered by the Hub.
  2. Farm support through outsourced staffing, affordable rentals of frozen, cold, and dry storage.
  3. A food distribution network that expands market access for farmers by delivering direct to consumers, restaurants, grocers and institutions looking to buy local food.
  4. A local market, gathering spot, and event space.
  5. Serving low-access communities.
