​Your vote is needed by CCE of St. Lawrence County!

The Association’s Board of Directors invites you to participate in this year’s election of its membership. Due to COVID-19 precautions, voting will be held electronically and by mail-in ballot (upon request) prior to the Association’s annual meeting on October 22nd. The voting is now officially open and will run through October 20, 2020. The Nominating Committee will announce the results of the election at the annual meeting.

The Association needs your involvement! Eligible voters must be 18 years of age, a St. Lawrence resident, and have engaged with Extension over the past year. Engagement could include but is not limited to participating in a program; serving as a volunteer; receiving technical assistance, services or information; or using Extension’s online or printed materials. If this describes you, please take a moment to cast your vote.

The Nominating Committee is proud to present four candidates (bios found below); two nominees for re-election to a second term and two nominees to replace outgoing members. Nominated for a three-year term (2021-2023) are:

Patricia Gilbert

Patty is an agriculture teacher for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES. She was raised on a small dairy farm in Oxford, NY, and participated in 4-H and dairy youth programs. She earned a Bachelor’s in Animal Science and Master in Teaching from Cornell University. Patty taught Natural Resource Management at Northwest Technical Center in Ogdensburg for two years before transferring to the Agricultural Studies Academy. Patty is active in her community and serves as the Young Farmer Chair for St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau. Patty and her husband’s family are actively involved in the dairy industry milking 1200 cows on their fourth generation farm. When not in the classroom, Patty spends time with her husband and two children on the farm, in the garden and exploring the Adirondacks.

Rebekah Mott

Rebekah works for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES directing the communications, public relations, and marketing efforts for BOCES and 19 public school districts across the North Country. In this position, she works closely with the Agricultural Studies Academy, which operates in partnership with Extension. Rebekah grew up in rural Vermont on a small hobby farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for the agricultural community. She believes strongly in devoting her time and expertise to community organizations and has volunteered in many roles in the community including GardenShare, the Norwood Public Library Board, and the North Country Women's Leadership Institute. Rebekah has been an Extension Board Member since 2017.

Loni Recker

Originally from the New York City area, Loni has lived in Saint Lawrence County for over 40 years. She finds that the community-mindedness and independent spirit of the people along with the gorgeous and diverse landscape make the region a unique and wonderful place to live. She is thankful on a daily basis that she landed here. Loni’s educational background is in veterinary science. She is self-employed as a high school private tutor, focusing on AP courses and college preparatory curriculum. She is a member of the Ogdensburg Garden Club, a Friend of the Ogdensburg Public Library, and a member of the St. Lawrence Valley Dog Club. Over 20 years ago, Loni's family joined a 4-H club and was introduced to the enriching and educational programs of Cornell Cooperative Extension. She has seen firsthand how immensely impactful its programs are. Loni holds a Master Gardener Volunteer certification from CCE. Loni runs the non-profit (501c3) Ogdensburg Youth Garden Club, which she helped form 24 years ago. Loni manages approximately ten adult volunteers and twenty-five children. She writes grants, manages the program budget, collaborates with the Frederic Remington Art Museum's educator and director, develops educational programming and plans field trips and hands-on learning experiences. What Loni finds most rewarding is working with eager children to cultivate beauty in their community. Loni lives in Lisbon with her wonderful husband, Chuck, where she enjoys gardening, riding her beautiful horse, Bella, and roaming her property with her Wheaton Terrier, Lucy.

Lynzie Schulte

Lynzie Schulte lives in the Village of Potsdam with her husband Scott, two kids Chase (7) and Mila (5), and two rescue dogs Coconut and Twix. She went to Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, NY and graduated in 2001 before moving to Ohio to attend college. In 2005, Lynzie graduated with her Bachelors of Science from the University of Cincinnati and went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University in 2008. Lynzie worked her way up through leadership and board positions with the Ohio Physical Therapy Association and held legislative and leadership positions with the national American Physical Therapy Association. She has presented to local, state, and national audiences on various physical therapy, leadership, and legislative topics. She has also written the chapter on Environmental and Occupational Medicine for two editions of the textbook Pathology: Implications for the Physical Therapist. She proceeded to work both clinically in critical care hospitals and as an adjunct teacher in higher education in Cleveland Ohio until 2018 when the family moved to Potsdam for new opportunities and more time together. Upon moving to Potsdam, Lynzie worked at Clarkson University as an adjunct faculty member in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, renovated an old doctor’s office into two apartments, and helped her two children get settled into Lawrence Ave Elementary and Smart Cookies Enrichment Program. At the end of 2019 Lynzie designed and opened a small business in Downtown Potsdam, Foster the Plant Cafe, whose mission is to utilize local ingredients and products, highlight local artists and craftspeople, make decisions based on environmental sustainability, and support other small businesses and non-profits with events and partnerships. Lynzie also participates in local governance, volunteers time at Potsdam Central School District including sitting on the Health and Wellness Committee, and really enjoys being able to walk to village amenities.
