The Food Preservationist's Garden: A Community Conversation

  • Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Let’s jumpstart the growing season by sharing our experiences in growing food for preservation. The evening will be loosely organized by topic. A Master Food Preserver will give an introduction to each section by introducing their own methods. Afterwards, it will open to the entire group and attendees to share their experiences and ask questions. The event is suited to many skill levels, from long-time growers/homesteaders to beginners. Attendees are encouraged, but not required to contribute their favorite recipes, varieties and sources of seed.

Topics (approx. 5-7 minutes for presenter followed by questions and sharing in each section)

  • Planning the garden and pests/diseases in relation to food preservation
  • Maximizing small spaces for preservation and how to handle random surplus
  • Capture the flavor with freezing
  • Delicious sauces and jellies with water bath canning
  • The Kimchi Garden-Fermentation
  • Roots, onions and more in cold storage
