10:00-12:00 General Pesticide Safety & Entomology Categories: Core
A review of pesticide safety for agricultural applications. Presentation will include an overview of general pesticide safety, types of pesticides, reading the pesticide label, health and environmental risks of pesticide use, and proper pesticide handling practices. – Kitty O’Neil
A review of insect morphology to aid in accurate identification using some commonly seen look-alike insects as examples, and a review of simple and complex life cycles and why they are important to know for best management practices. Both pest species and beneficial species serve as examples. – Amy Ivy

1:00-3:00 IPM Procedures and Strategies & Weed Science Categories: Core
A review of herbaceous and woody plants that commonly act as weeds, and a discussion of what makes a plant a weed. Tips for proper identification will be included as well as the importance of understanding the life cycle and reproductive methods of a plant to better understand how to control it. – Amy Ivy
Overview of general integrated pest management methods and strategies with pest and pathogen examples relevant to Northern NYS. Presentation will include a review of proper scouting procedures, economic thresholds and comprehensive pest control strategies. – Kitty O’Neil
***NYS DEC credits are pending approval. You must arrive on time and stay for the entire AM or PM session to receive these credits. Pesticide sign in rosters will be available only during registration just prior to each workshop. At the end of each program, the certificates will be distributed.***
