Extended School Day Funded for 5 More Years; 6 School Districts Benefit

The NY State Education Department has released the award recipients for the 2016-2021 Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention Grant. Once again St. Lawrence County’s strong coalition of five community partners and six school districts were awarded funding. Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County will partner with all six school districts receiving this grant to deliver New York State 4-H Youth Development mission mandates. These mandates include research-based learning through STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), healthy lifestyles, and civic engagement and leadership.

4-H connects youth locally, nationally, and internationally to hands-on experiential learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, and contributing members of society. Youth experiences within 4-H reflect local needs and cultures while also preparing them for success in a rapidly changing world.

This grant has reached approximately 500 youth annually over the past six years, and with this award, will continue to impact youth in St. Lawrence County.
