Alton LaVack Memorial Scholarship

Alton LaVack Memorial Scholarship

Dear St. Lawrence County Fair Youth Dairy Exhibitors,

The LaVack family established a memorial scholarship fund in memory of Alton LaVack, who passed away in April 2004. Thanks to generous donations from family and friends, we will be awarding the seventeenth scholarship in the amount of $500 this year at the Gouverneur-St.Lawrence County Fair.

Applicants must be past or present St. Lawrence County 4-H or FFA members enrolled this fall at a two or four-year college in any major. Applicants must have been youth dairy exhibitors at the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair.Previous winners will not be eligible, but all other college bound students are encouraged to apply each year.

Alton was active in both 4-H and FFA as a youth and enjoyed the many dairy contests. He served on the 4-H dairy committee for many years and was a 4-H dairy judging leader in the Gouverneur area for most of his adult life. His favorite time of the year was the week of the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair where he served as dairy cattle superintendent from 1978 – 2003.

Since Alton was so fond of all the youth exhibitors, we felt a scholarship given each year would be a great way to honor his memory and support our outstanding youth.

We hope that you will find this application thought provoking and enjoyable to complete. Please send finished applications to Ellen Harper, 613 Welsh Road, Richville, New York 13681 or send via e-mail to dean7006@hotmail.com by August 1st.Sincerely,

The family of Alton LaVack
